You don’t have to go to India or China to find poverty.  It’s rampant in our own backyard.  Some Truthtalk Live listeners are less than 200 miles from the heart of  poverty-stricken Appalachia.

In a 24 county region of West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and southwestern Virginia served by the Appalachia Service Project, 26-percent of the population lives at or below the poverty line.

The Appalachia Service Project’s vision has been to eradicate substandard housing in the area. Since 1969, more than 260,000 volunteers have repaired more than 14,000 homes and many lives have been changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

On today’s broadcast, we’d like to challenge Truthtalk Live listeners to raise $6,000. That’s enough to remodel one full house for a family in Appalachia.  YOU can help us get there. We need 20 listeners to give a $300 one time gift or sign up for the Carpenters Club at $25 a month. No gift is too small or too big.  Check out the Christmas catalog online where you can donate $17 for a tape measure or $55 for a wheelbarrow.

asp Click on the banner (left) to help change lives and tune in this afternoon from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Eastern as Stu Epperson talks with David Bryant of the Appalachia Service Project. They’ll share some stories that will touch your heart.

At the rate we are going this is what America will look like. At least the people in Appalachia won’t notice the change. I’m not trying to be funny here and believe me, my heart goes out to these people; but if the nation is impoverished who will be their to help?

According to John Williams of Shadow Government Statistics, real unemployment is at 22%, which is Great Depression levels. Inflation is now running at 6% not the negative .5% the government is telling us. GDP is not growing at 2.8% but is contracting. The government’s formulas in calculating the health of the economy are designed to fool us into believing that things are better than what they really are. The implimentation of the Boskin Commission report during the Clinton administration was designed to do one thing, bring down the rate of inflation so as to lower the COLAs in Social Security.

Do you realize that in Detroit, the city that was once America’s future, they are stacking up corpses like cord wood because there is not enough money to bury the dead.

The latest report from FDIC now says that as many as 1000 banks are underfunded and in trouble.

Do people realize that Exxon Mobile is selling all of its service stations and opening up service stations in China. Do people understand the implications of this. Disney is building a new theme park. Where? Not in the US or North America but…..you guessed it….Bejing.

In the mean time government debt continues to grow exponentially, while the US dollar is now being seen as a banana republic currency.

A falling currency will guarantee that we have the Appalachia experience.

My obligations now are to my family, especially my wife, kids, and my elderly mother, my church, and then to others as God calls me to serve. But right now it is all I can do to support the first two on my list.

Awesome organization. Sad that you chose a line from “Country Roads” by John Denver as the title of this post. Why would you do that?

We did it to set a contrast, that not all of West Va is ‘almost heaven’–due to the intense poverty that ASP is serving. No disrespect to Denver’s song intended al all—in fact it’s one of my favorite tunes! Happy thanksgiving! stu

Hey Stu – Thanks for your response.

Good to see you on here.

Great show and a great organization.

It is nice to see a group doing something about our own people here in America.

Denver is a legend and just thought it was strange.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you also.
