It comes with a reminder that even though Christians cannot be ultimately and finally claimed by evil, we can be drawn to it, tempted by it, and suffer the consequences of it. I suppose the message is a kind of veiled encouragement to take one's Christian life seriously and deliberately. It also serves as a warning that most paths to evil are not sudden -- no one wakes up one morning with the intent to destroy their lives with addiction, infidelity, or other dramatic, life-destroying actions -- but gradual, as a series of slightly more dangerous steps that put us ever further from where we ought to be.
