bagins,
I’m sure God will answer all your concerns on Judgment Day. Thus, I hope you’re really sure about the problems you have. It’d be bad if they all just turned out to be hot air and easily explained/corrected.

Answer: I’m sure your superstition that God will answer all my concerns on Judgment Day has already turned out to be just hot air and easily explained/corrected.
It doesn’t affect heartless people, so it should affect you…you’re just not letting it. It’s that old hard heart that Jesus is always ready to tenderize.

Answer: Spoken like every religion charlatan from past to present.
What if they talk about “invisible” dreams or ideas? Will they believe that? “Hell naw, I never have experienced that particular dream or idea, I reject you and all the things that I cannot see or experience myself!”

Answer: Your particular dreams and ideas are patently absurd. That’s why I reject them. But you clearly ignore all the millions of ex-Christians who had that particular dream or idea and realized it was really just a pipe dream and bad idea someone else put in their head.
What an angel! By golly, I bet your sh** don’t stink either.

Answer: By the manner in which you phrased your original premise you clearly implied that the only reason you don’t steal is fear of being caught. So you’re no angel. But then angels don’t exist.
Yea, EXACTLY! That’s why I deal with angry skeptics like you. It just makes me feel like I’m floating blissfully in a cloud. I got news, you ain’t the only one dealing with tough issues buddy.

Answer: This what I think you Christians should learn to deal with. Your own anger that other people have the audacity to do what you’ve been commanded never to do which is to boldly question the Bible and the major tenets of your faith. People like me who do this are not necessarily angry. That’s likely just something you tell yourself to make yourself feel better. Sometimes Christians mistake sarcasm from their critics for bitterness. I’m not angry at all.

I do think about tough issues. It’s you Bible believers who don’t want to have to think about difficult issues like abortion rights so you call abortion murder; gay rights so you call homosexuality a perversion or a choice in spite of scientific evidence to the contrary; the environment because God’s in control; animal rights because God made them all for humans to do what they will; stem-cell research because it’s science and science is atheistic. And so on.

Post 346 - Bernie: Oh really? How exactly does that affect me then? I thought Jesus was supposed to have died to pay for my sins.

It doesn't affect heartless people, so it should affect you...you're just not letting it. It's that old hard heart that Jesus is always ready to tenderize.

Bernie: Well people who think for themselves aren’t going to believe other people when they talk about invisible beings.

What if they talk about "invisible" dreams or ideas? Will they believe that? "Hell naw, I never have experienced that particular dream or idea, I reject you and all the things that I cannot see or experience myself!"

Bernie: I wouldn’t steal no matter whether someone was watching or not.

What an angel! By golly, I bet your sh** don't stink either.

Bernie: You believe what ever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy as long as you don’t have to think about things that make you uncomfortable...

Post 346 - Bernie: And then makes this guess or opinion decide whether they should be punished with unimaginable violence or rewarded in a magical spirit world. Sure. That’s just insane.

bagins,
You didn’t fairly portray the Christian belief.
Jesus taught godliness and forgiveness in his life - by word and deed.
He was killed because he held fast to his teachings - which challenged the authorities of the time.
He rose bodily to prove to those he taught that he was true.

Answer: Oh really? How exactly does that affect me then? I thought Jesus was supposed to have died to pay for my sins. Obviously not, because there is no connection between what you say and God sending himself into the world.

So in three years time Jesus started the largest movement in human history.

Answer: Why is there no evidence that Christianity began in Palestine then? Why is thee no evidence that Jesus Christ or any of his disciples ever even existed?
I suppose you reject the modus operandi?

Was God supposed to shout unto every person (past, present, future) simultaneously…saying He exists, the consequences of rejecting (or being rejected by) Him, and what it means to accept Him?

Answer: Well people who think for themselves aren’t going to believe other people when they talk about invisible beings.

the need for faith. (e.g. If you *knew* a camera was aimed at some particular shopping aisle, then you would be sure to not steal from there.

Answer: This is what is fundamentally wrong with Christianity. I wouldn’t steal no matter whether someone was watching or not. But Christians ALWAYS tell me what a despicable humans being they would be if there was no God to punish them for their misdeeds. People who cannot be moral without the threat of punishment are about as immoral and disgusting as they can be.

In the same way, if you knew God was watching your every move, you would be sure to obey Him to reap rewards.) — Why shouldn’t God, instead, make things interesting (or worth something)?

Answer: A God who plays games and makes people guess whether he exists or not. And then makes this guess or opinion decide whether they should be punished with unimaginable violence or rewarded in a magical spirit world. Sure. That’s just insane.

I believe everyone will be judged fairly. People who never heard [the good news] will be dealt with differently than the informed person…and so on.

Answer: “ …but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God” (John 3:18b). You believe what ever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy as long as you don’t have to think about things that make you uncomfortable like death, abortion, women’s rights, gay rights, the obvious contradictions and inaccuracies in the Bible and anything else that would make you human.

Mike, who were the two witnesses back around 70 AD - that are mentioned? The beast kills them, and then people witness them being resurrected, and then an earthquake occurs and does damage to the city and its inhabitants - the survivors then feared God. This was called the second woe, and there was to be a third woe afterwards. All this is said to happens before Christ returns.

b baggins: That's only part of the story. The truth is, Jesus had to undo what Adam did by sinning in the beginning. Jesus bought back what Adam lost at the fall. He had to die to pay the price to regain the life we lost at the beginning. He was the Second Adam. He kept all the law and lived a sinless life, if He hadn't He would never have been able to offer Himself as a perfect sacrifice. Remember, the OT sacrifices of bulls and goats (which only covered sins then) had to be spotless to be offered on the altar. So too, Jesus Christ, had to be spotless....the spotless lamb of God. He was also born sinless.....he had no earthly father....for God was His Father, and so the blood that flowed in His veins was given to Him of His Father and not His mother. Sinless blood was shed for the sinful. He took our place....He took our punishment for sin, so that we, by believing could be made righteous in Gods sight. We have been cleansed by the blood of the lamb. And our sins have not just been covered over but have been washed away! Hallelujah! Read Isaiah 53.

John: ''Maz, would you prefer the opposite of being intelligent?
Saying things like THAT will help to reinforce the beliefs of someone like Bernie that theological faith is for morons.''

I didn't say intelligence isn't necessary. We are thinking people, we gain information about our world, but sometimes too much info can overload some brains and they don't know how to process it all properly. But, to know God, intelligence is not necessary......for faith. That does not mean you have to be crazy either. Even a young child can know God. He doesn't need a high school education.
