God bless America! May He also bless the soldiers of Mr. Newman's stature. My grandfather fought in Normandy but never talked about it with me, a HUGE WWII history buff. However, war was not a novelty to him. Not something to be studied or glorified. Simply a means to an end. Freedom from tyrrants and terrorism must be taken by force. These honorable and peaceful men sacrificed themselves for the ideals of democracy and liberty and it must never be forgotten.

It is important to note that Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime wanted nothing to do with the prospect of going to war with the U.S., but our intervention helped liberate a race of people who faced possible extinction. Not including the many governments forcefully overthrown by this power-hungry, megalomaniacal, lunatic. I have to agree that war in Vietnam was not fully justifiable. My uncle survived Vietnam in the division with the highest casualty rate. He knew what he did was not popular or warranted, but he knew he made a difference in someone's life. Apart from Vietnam, I think the war on terror (in Iraq and Afghanistan) is vastly different. Our soldiers fought in Iraq to bring down one of the most murderous men since Mao Tse-Tung and bring democracy to Iraq. I think it is now time to withdrawl, but we never accomplished our goal in Afghanistan. The Islamic terrorists who attacked us on 9/ll DO want something to do with us...so their demise is self-induced.

I have dear friends in both theatres. One is an engineer who locates and dismantles IED's (roadside bombs) and the other is a .50 cal. gunner in a Humvee transport unit. I've talked with them at length, and their hearts are set on honor, justice, and liberty. Not occupation and control. I think the spirit of my grandfather's generation of servicemen, inherited from the American Revolutionists, have been passed down through the battle lines to our heroes today. If it wasn't for their sacrifice there would be no freedom to blog on this site...there would not be an America at all. God bless you all.

The sad thing is that too many Americans have forgotten heroes like your brother. The Viet Nam war was a serious mistake. We should have learned from that war not to travel halfway around the world to kill people who want nothing to do with us. But we didn’t. Every time I hear or read about our soldiers dying in Afghanistan and Iraq I think about people like Wade A Newman.

hi, there are lots of heroes, but the one that i love best is my brother. as a young man he was drafted to serve in the army during the vietnam war. he did not want to go. he was a very kind hearted person and did not want to hurt anyone. i suppose he was scared as well. he did not let it show. he had never been away from home. he did his job, he saved fellow comrades and valuable equipment under fire. he earned a lot of medals, but never mentioned them. we only found out because the army sent pics and info to our parents. he would never speak about it. he was wounded several times . his mind and body was never the same. it broke my heart to see my dear brother suffer because of what he had seen and done.but , Wade A Newman, my only brother was a HERO and one of those wonderful young people that made it possible for us in the USA to be FREE !!

he passed away 4 years ago. please don't forget him.
