I can read the same scripture from the Bible many times and have different understandings. I believe that this is the Holy Ghost working in my life. There may be something I need revealed at a particular time in my life for a certain situation.

Or, it could be that maybe previous things you thought about the particular scripture in question may not have been completely correct, and you may have now arrived at the correct meaning. As we grow in Christian maturity, our abilities also grow, and thus our ability to discern a "correct" interpretation from an "incorrect" one. That's why it is so important to be in a good discipleship program with more spiritually mature mentors. Additionally, I'm not saying that just b/c there is one interpretation, it won't have different effects on different people's lives. That is entirely possible.

How is it that you know the “only” possible interpretation?

I don't think, and never said, that it's just "me" who has the "only" possible correct interpretation. I think many people do. But remember, just b/c different people have different interpretations, doesn't mean ALL of the interpretations are correct. That's a trap that a lot of people fall into.

Especially since God has said all he has to say.(According to you) and you know this how? Does it say somewhere in the Bible….I the Lord God have finished speaking….now make do and hope you get it right.

Show me where you think He has revealed more of what we need to know, and your proof for believing that God Himself inspired it, as He did the Bible. The Bible nowhere speaks of any further revelation we will be receiving from God, as everything needed to have salvation and live the Christian life is contained in the Bible already.

True, the Bible is the word of God, but it is being read by men/women and we are far from perfect.

Your point? Nobody's denying that imperfect people read the Bible. But that doesn't mean that we can't come to a proper, correct interpretation of what it says. If you don't think it does, then I would ask you these 2 questions:

Do you believe in absolute truth?

If so, do you believe that truth is knowable?

Christianity means believing in Jesus Christ… not believing in mens (any mans) interpretations of The Bible. The Bible is for each of us individually and you nor I have no right to judge anyone, anywhere, anytime.

What if someone comes up to you and says that they've read the Bible, and they believe that Christ is really just an ordinary man who came, had some good teachings, but really wasn't the Savior. The person believed that Christ existed, but was just an ordinary man.

That's their "interpretation" of the Bible - is it correct?

Brad,

I am not a scriptural expert and don't profess to be but I have a question for you.

I can read the same scripture from the Bible many times and have different understandings. I believe that this is the Holy Ghost working in my life. There may be something I need revealed at a particular time in my life for a certain situation.

ADB got my point. Mormonism, Christian Science, Buddhism, Muslim, Hinduism, etc., etc., etc., and even some of many "so-called" main stream Christian legalists, believe that we have to "conform" to and live by certain standards in order to be accepted by God. This is what I refer to as "outside in" behavior. Thinking that our behavior is going to get us somewhere with God. aka. "Performance Based Christianity"

Rather it is quite the opposite... Through trust in Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us despite our wretchedness and transforms us from the inside out, making us free, thus motivating and enabling us to live for Him in the POWER of the Holy Spirit!!

FLA,

At the risk of putting words into into Mr. Sears' mouth, I think he refers to the Biblical belief that true reformation of character and actions begins with a renewal of heart- the "new birth" of which Jesus spoke in John's Gospel. We believe this is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Hope this helps,
